John Barton

John Barton was born in 1928. Educated Eton college and King’s College, Cambridge. Became Dean of King’s College, Cambridge and taught many of the leading figures in British Theatre today. Married to Professor Anne Barton of Trinity College, Cambridge.

Peter Hall invited John Barton to become Assistant Director when he founded the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1959. For the next 30 years he was the RSC’s Associate Director and then Advisory Director.
