Manuel Puig was born in Argentina. He Studied film directing at the Cinecitta studios in Rome in the late 1950s, working as an assistant director to the likes of Kay Kendall and Vittorio de Sica. He left Rome for New York, and wrote his first novel whilst working as a clerk for Air France at Kennedy Airport. From 1967 until Peron’s return in 1973, Puig lived in Argentina. He then lived in exile in Brazil until his death in 1990. He is best known for his play THE KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN.
