Bongi Ndaba is a South African writer, director and producer who began her screen career in 2003 writing for one of SA’s top soaps Generations. Bongi became the head-writer for the show in 2011 and raised the viewership by 3 million, breaking its own record. Bongi repeated her success in 2018 when she was head writer for Uzalo when that show broke its record with 10.2 million viewers. Bongi’s original series Sokhulu And Partners for SABC1 won seven SAFTAS in 2009 and was nominated for an International Emmy after which Bongi adapted her stage play Shreds And Dreams (Johannesburg’s Market Theatre) for television under the mentorship of Zakes Mda which was commissioned by SABC1. Bongi has been head writer on multiple dramas, soaps and telenovelas for all the major South African broadcasters including three seasons of The Estate and the International Emmy-nominated South African drama Home Affairs. Bongi was commissioned to write the remake of The Number One Ladies Detective Agency for Left Bank before the pandemic shelved the project and last year was head writer for a Botswana changed format of the hit BBC series Liar (Two Brother Pictures) for Steve Lorenzo / Forge Entertainment and she co-wrote feature uNongendi's Summer Love with frequent collaborator Chisanga Kabinga and producer Lulu Hela for Prime Studios Africa. She is currently head writing the reboot of acclaimed daily drama Generations: The Legacy for SABC3.
