Brett Michael Innes' debut feature Sink premiered In Competition at Atlanta in 2016 and was heralded by local critics as a 'breakout film that sets a new standard for South African cinema’. He won SAFTAs for Best Film, Screenplay and Best Edit with his co-editor. His second feature, an adaptation of the iconic novel, Fiela Se Kind, premiered In Competition at Tallinn Black Nights and was awarded the SAFTA for Best Film and Screenplay in 2020 and was nominated Best Film in an African Language at the 2020 Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA). Five Tiger, a short that he produced and edited, was official selection at 2021 Sundance while his third feature, the mockumentary Daryn’s Gym, was selected for IFFR 2022 and had its theatrical premiere at Joburg Film Festival 2023. Brett directed episodes of Catch Me A Killer – an 8-part series for Night Train Media/M-Net and last year he wrapped episodes for the second series of Unseen for Gambit Films and Netflix. The Heart Is A Muscle on which Brett was a producer premiered at Berlinale 2024, won the jury award before winning best feature at Silwerskermfees - SA's Afrikaans film festival. The film is SA's submission to the 98th Academy Awards. Most recently Brett wrote and produced My Fok Maralize – the first Namibian-SA copro for Multichoice and directed and produced the safari-set rompcom Khaki Fever . Brett is currently writing to showrun a series adaptation of crime books for Multichoice.
