Stef Smith


Stef Smith is an exciting young Australian filmmaker and established commercials director. Most recently Stef is the creator, showrunner and series director of Australian Academy nominated, AWGIE winning television miniseries IT’S FINE, I’M FINE which aired on SBS to much critical acclaim. Next for Stef is setting up an 8 episode scripted comedy series for ABC in Australia. Her award-winning short film JOY BOY screened internationally including at Palm Springs, Iris Prize and the American Pavilion Emerging Directors Showcase, Cannes 2020. The short also premiered on SBS Viceland and SBS OnDemand in 2018 where it received the highest views out of the Queer For Short program and broadcast views. Stef directed and produced ABC iView sketch comedy series THE LOST TAPES funded by ABC and Screen Australia, as part of their Fresh Blood initiative. Stef is signed to Photoplay in Australia as a commercials director where she has directed campaigns for brands such as Netflix, Mars Bar, Pantene and XBox. In 2021 she won the Australian Directors Guild Award for Best Commercial Content and won Bronze at Shots Asia for New Director of the Year. Stef is also a creator and screenwriter and currently writing an original drama series for EOne in the UK.
