Anna Symon is an award-winning showrunner and writer who most recently created and executive produced six part crime drama JOAN, starring Sophie Turner. Inspired by the true story of a 1980s diamond thief, JOAN was broadcast on ITV and ITVX in Autumn 2024.
Anna’s television credits as showrunner / lead writer include:
THE ESSEX SERPENT (Apple TV+ / See Saw / Sixty Forty), a six part adaptation of Sarah Perry’s award-winning novel, starring Claire Danes and Tom Hiddleston, directed by Clio Barnard.
DEEP WATER (ITV/ Kudos) a six part relationship thriller, adapted from best-selling novels by Paula Daly, starring Anna Friel, Sinead Keenan and Rosalind Eleazar.
MRS WILSON (BBC One / Snowed In) a limited series based on the true story of a secret agent’s wife, starring Ruth Wilson, playing her own grandmother. The show was nominated for multiple BAFTAs including Best Mini-Series, and a WGGB Award for Best Screenplay.
Anna is currently developing television series with multiple platforms and broadcasters, in the UK and US. She is represented by Marissa Devins and Lucinda Moorhead at UTA in the States.
Prior to her writing career, Anna worked as a producer/ director in current affairs and documentaries. Anna is an active champion of female voices, and often works as a mentor and guest speaker.
