Mia Mullarkey

Named one of Screen International’s 2023 Rising Stars, IFTA-nominated director Mia transitioned from psychology to filmmaking, earning acclaim for her award-winning shorts, Wrapped and Safe as Houses.

Mia recently directed on Hidden Assets Season 3; and is developing three original TV projects and her first feature. For TV: a six-part returnable series based on Estelle Birdy’s acclaimed novel Ravelling with Sleeper Films; and a mini-series of Elske Rahill’s An Unravelling with Pipedream Productions, supported by Screen Ireland and RTE. As a writer-director, Mia is developing her debut feature, Lucid, a psychological sci-fi supported by TIFF, and the Sloan Foundation.

Mentored by Lenny Abrahamson, Mia made the leap into drama in 2021 with her debut short The Passion, adapted from a story by Donal Ryan. She followed with Safe as Houses, a Screen Ireland short that won Gold at the YDA, Cannes Lions 2023, and won Mia Best Emerging Director at the 2023 EDAs. Her subsequent work includes directing the RTÉ Storyland pilot Wrapped, which won Gold at the YDA and Cannes Lions 2024. She also served as Irish Unit Director on The Gone Season 2.
