Monica Heisey is a screenwriter, comedian and author from Toronto whose debut novel REALLY GOOD, ACTUALLY was a “runaway bestseller” following its publication earlier this year by William Morrow for HarperCollins (US) and Fourth Estate (UK). It has sold in a further fifteen international territories and been translated widely. The novel reached no. 2 on the Sunday Times Bestseller list and a TV adaptation, which Monica will helm, is already in development.

Now based in the UK, Monica recently wrote, showran and executive produced her upcoming comedy series SMOTHERED for Roughcut and Sky and has been part of multiple writers' rooms for upcoming Working Title developments. She also continues to work stateside and in Canada with ongoing projects including a half hour sitcom in development with Aline Brosh Mackenna’s company Lean Machine for ABC.

Back in Canada, Monica worked as a story editor and writer on CRAWFORD for CBC & Comedy Central, three seasons of THE BEAVERTON for Pier 21 & Comedy Network, two seasons of SCHITT'S CREEK for CBC & Netflix, and all five seasons of BARONESS VON SKETCH SHOW for Frantic Films & CBC. With the writing team of Baroness von Sketch Show, she has won four Canadian Screen Awards, and was nominated for a fifth for writing and producing the live broadcast of the 2018 Canadian Screen Awards ceremony.

Monica’s short REST STOP, co-written and directed by filmmaker Kate Herron for Sky Comedy won the Grand Prize for Best Comedy and was nominated for the Oscar-qualifying Prize of Best Short at the Flickers: Rhode Island Film Festival.

Her second novel is forthcoming from William Morrow and Fourth Estate.
