Pier Lorenzo Pisano

Pier Lorenzo Pisano is an award-winning Italian filmmaker and playwright, exploring the human condition through story grounded in complexly rendered characters, world-building and wry, absurdist humour. Following graduation of the Centro Sperimentale in Rome (National Cinema School), his debut short film COSI IN TERRA/AS IT IS ON EARTH (pw: terra) – a thoughtful portrait of two souls trying to mend a wound and find healing in a torn, Italian village and connections severed and found – premiered in competition at the 71st Cannes Film Festival (2018) before screening in more than fifty international film festivals. ANTIORARIO/UNDER THE GOD premiered at Locarno in 2019. As a writer, Lorenzo has been the recipient of the prestigious Tondelli Award, Solinas Award and Hystrio Award. CARBON – a macrocosmic, human, formally-inventive poetic interrogation of what we sacrifice in the name of love – was awarded the 56th Riccione Theatre Award. Lorenzo’s plays have been translated into twelve languages (incl. Romanian, Czech, Russian and Polish) and performed internationally. As well as being a native Italian speaker Lorenzo is also fluent in English.
