Racha Sobratee

Racha Sobratee is an exciting and prolific screenwriting talent. She currently has three original projects in development with the BBC including a YA comedy-drama called BEING AISHA which she’s been developing with Chapter One and a high-stakes drama with Witchery Pictures. Versatile and skilled in both comedy and drama, her work typically focuses on complex and conflicted central characters written with verve and punch often drawing upon her own experiences as a first generation immigrant of South Asian Heritage and a practicing Muslim.

In 2020 she won Zeppotron’s Make A Scene Competition with her acerbic short form comedy THE QUIET ONE which she is continuing to develop. As well as being shortlisted for the Amazon/Triforce Writers Slam, she is currently on Rollem Productions’ BBC New Talent Initiative.

In addition to her original work, Racha graduated from the Forge’s Ackley Bridge Shadow Scheme in 2019 and has subsequently participated in several writers rooms including a development writers room for a Nick Hornby adaptation.

As a co-writer, Racha has several projects in development with long-time collaborator Dave Horner with the likes of Firebird Pictures, Cosmopolitan and Hat Trick. She has also worked as an Assistant Producer on comedy-entertainment shows like Frankie Boyle’s New World Order.
