Reabetswe “Rea” Rangaka is a South African writer, director, and actor hailing from Johannesburg. He completed his Master's in Film Directing from Chapman University as a Fulbright Scholar and has worked on numerous productions in South Africa including Netflix’s Savage Beauty, Miseducation and Unseen S2, MTV's Shuga Down South, and Fremantle’s Reyka S2 (or Sugar Cane Killings as it is known on Channel 4) among many others. Rea’s debut feature came in 2016 with The Lucky Specials as part of Discovery's Learning Alliance’s program promoting Tuberculosis awareness and other related social justice issues. The film earned distinction at FESPACO (The Panafrican Film and Television Festival of Ouagadougou), South African Film & Television Awards (SAFTAs), Pan African Film Festival in Los Angeles, and culminating in winning the ‘Best New Feature’ at the San Francisco Black Film Festival. Rea’s interests lie in stories about underrepresented identities or tales of people who live on the periphery, particularly Black stories through the prism of a “post-liberated” youth in South Africa. Rea is currently writing his own feature entitled End of the Rainbow and has a couple of shows in various phases of development.
