Rhys is a London based writer/actor who grew up in rural Carmarthenshire in South West Wales and trained at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (BA Acting).
His debut play BLUE opened in January 2019 at Chapter Arts Centre in Cardiff, produced by Chippy Lane Productions. The play received four-and five-star reviews from The Guardian, The Arts Desk, A Younger Theatre and Arts Scene Wales.
Rhys’ latest play MONUMENT was supported by the Peggy Ramsay Foundation and shortlisted for the Papatango Prize 2024, the BOLD Playwrights award 2024 and longlisted for the Verity Bargate Award 2025. It will receive its premiere in a co-production between the Royal Court Theatre and the Sherman Theatre in December 2026 as part of the Royal Court’s 70th Anniversary Season.. The play was also selected to be part of the Royal Courts inaugural Open Submissions Festival in April 2025.
Rhys is also currently under commission with Michael Sheen’s Welsh National Theatre. He is part of the first group of writers to be commissioned under this new venture.
Rhys has previously been selected for the Sherman’s Writers Group, Pentabus’ Young Writers cohort and BBC Welsh Voices. The project that he was developing as part of BBC Welsh Voices was then selected for further development with NFTS.
For screen, he has been selected for the Casualty Welsh Writers’ Shadow Scheme and also wrote the feature film BAMBI: THE RECKONING for Jagged Edge Productions & ITN which premiered in July 2025.
