Roland began making films at Goldsmiths with the documentary, MY FRIEND THE THIEF, about cat burglar Peter Scott. His first fiction short, SAY NOTHING, won First Prize Director’s Choice at the Rhode Island International Film Festival among many other nominations on the festival circuit and Roland was selected for The Locarno Film Festival Summer Academy in 2012. Roland was the David Yates scholar on the MA Fiction Directing course at the NFTS, where he made a number of shorts including his graduate film GENTLEMAN THIEF. With his fellow NFTS alumni, writer Eoin P. Doran and producer Miranda Ballesteros, Roland secured funding under the BBC Films/NFTS “Greenlight” scheme for his 2019 film THE PASSENGER, a thriller starring Conrad Khan. Roland has also built up a commercial filmmaking practice. He has twice been nominated for the British Arrow Awards, winner of a D&Ad New Blood Pencil Award, and in 2018 won a Gold Craft Arrow Award for his Autograph Collection Hotels backed THE TALE OF WILSON “SNOWFLAKE” BENTLEY.
