Sammy is a director and dramaturg based in London. Their work is concerned with the stories of non-conforming bodies in a conformist world, often exploring the experiences of queer, trans, female and othered bodies blending the narrative tradition of British theatre with European-inspired visuals and design. Their show BABY IN THE MIRROR (Edinburgh Festival 2025) won two awards including Innovation and Excellence in New Writing at Summerhall. They directed Pete MacHale’s debut play DEAR YOUNG MONSTER (Soho Theatre, 2025; and Bristol Old Vic Studio, 2024) which was nominated for Best Studio Production in the WhatsonStage Awards. They directed and co-created the sell-out devised show THE LAST SHOW BEFORE WE DIE (Roundabout, Edinburgh Festival; The Yard Theatre, London; Bristol Old Vic; the Queer Performance Festival Vienna) which was given 5 stars in the Guardian. They are currently Associate directing Alexander Zeldin’s THE OTHER PLACE at the National Theatre and New York (2026). They have Associated James MacDonald’s production of Mike Bartlett’s UNICORN in the West End, and assisted Rebecca Frecknall on her production of THE DUCHESS OF MALFI at the Almeida Theatre. They work closely with Young People and have devised community-focused work as Associate Director of Targeted Work at the Lyric Hammersmith and Associate Director of The Big House. They have formerly been Resident Director at The Almeida Theatre, and Mentor Director for National Theatre Connections. Upcoming is new work by writers Eleanor Tindall at NYT and Georgie Dettmer, and touring THE OTHER PLACE to Paris, Luxembourg and Geneva (2026). They will shoot their first short film IONA later this year.
