Sammy is a director and dramaturg who focuses on new writing, adaptations, and devised work with performer-creators. They are interested in telling queer stories and working with young people to create plays rooted in their communities. Recent work includes co-writing and directing BABY IN THE MIRROR (Edinburgh Festival 2025); directing Pete MacHale’s debut play DEAR YOUNG MONSTER (Soho Theatre, 2025; and Bristol Old Vic Studio, 2024), and co-creating and directing the sell-out devised show THE LAST SHOW BEFORE WE DIE (Roundabout, Edinburgh Festival; The Yard Theatre, London; Bristol Old Vic; the Queer Performance Festival Vienna).They were associate director on Alex Zeldin’s THE OTHER PLACE at the National Theatre, and James MacDonald’s production of Mike Bartlett’s UNICORN in the West End, and assisted Rebecca Frecknall on her production of THE DUCHESS OF MALFI at the Almeida Theatre. They were formerly Associate Director of Targeted Work at the Lyric Hammersmith, Resident Director at The Almeida Theatre, and Associate Director at The Big House, and Mentor Director for the National Theatre Connections programme. Sammy was also involved creating the International Bruntwood Playwriting Reader Training, the first unconscious bias reader training for playwriting prizes of its kind.
