Sammy is a director and dramaturg who focuses on new writing, adaptations, and devised work with performer-creators. They are interested in telling queer stories and working with young people to create plays rooted in their communities. Recent productions include the sell-out devised show The Last Show Before We Die (Roundabout, Edinburgh Festival; The Yard Theatre, London; Bristol Old Vic; the Queer Performance Festival Vienna), and Dear Young Monster, the debut play by Pete MacHale (Bristol Old Vic Studio as part of their 2024 Ferment Scheme). They were associate director on Alex Zeldin’s The Other Place at the National Theatre, and have assisted Rebecca Frecknall on her production of The Duchess Of Malfi at the Almeida Theatre. They were formerly Associate Director of Targeted Work at the Lyric Hammersmith, Resident Director at The Almeida Theatre, and Associate Director at The Big House, and they work as a Mentor Director for the National Theatre Connections programme each year. Sammy was also involved creating the International Bruntwood Playwriting Reader Training, the first unconscious bias reader training for playwriting prizes of its kind.
