Savina Kanagasabay
A former lawyer and recent graduate of NFTS, Savina writes elevated genre stories rooted in tensions of class, race, power and legacy. Born and raised in South London by Tamil and Sinhalese Sri Lankan parents, she brings a dual heritage and a deep sense of cultural complexity to her scripts.
Her debut script, The Sink, was recognised by C21, BBC Writers Room and A Thousand Pictures. Her second script, Perpetuity, was a finalist in the Studio21 Drama Competition (2021), a semi-finalist for The Writers Lab (US) 2024 and a quarter-finalist in the WeScreenplay Diverse Voices Lab (Spring 2025). Her project, Sold Down the River, was shortlisted for the Studio21 Drama Competition (2023) and is a finalist for The Writers Lab (UK & Europe) 2025. She was also chosen to be part of The Network at the Edinburgh TV Festival 2025.
Savina is currently developing an urban horror feature and her latest script explores the rise of ultra-nationalism and anti-establishment popularism. She is constantly drawn to stories that unsettle, provoke and challenge.
