Sophie Max is a bright young London-based writer and actor who studied in New York and then at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. She is passionate about telling female-led stories which tackle complex themes in a bold, authentic and hopeful way. Her work explores subjects like identity, trauma, grief and healing through a female lens, and discusses the nuances of her own identity and history as a queer Jewish woman. Sophie has written (and produced) several short films, including the multi-award winning drama THE WHOLE TRUTH, directed by Yelita Ali, which is now streaming on Amazon Prime. Her other short films include award winning (DIS)CONNECTED; female-led thriller IT LOOKS BEAUTIFUL FROM HERE; LGBTQ+ comedy-drama NEW AGE which filmed in New York City in 2022 and SAVTA, a surreal drama about Jewish identity, generational trauma and antisemitism. Sophie has recently completed work on her TV drama spec, VIENNA, a powerful Holocaust drama inspired by her great grandparents’ experiences. She has been working with House Productions to develop an original comedy-drama series exploring modern, diverse Jewish identity and mental health. Simultaneously, she is developing a number of other original projects including SHIDDUCH, a comedy-drama series about trauma, healing and new beginnings; a dark drama series called GENESIS exploring family, grief and the lengths that three siblings will go to keep their childhood secrets buried; and a romantic comedy-drama feature film for the Everyone’s Invited age, WAR OF WITS, adapted from Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing. On the theatre side, her play TIL IT STOPS was Longlisted for the Women’s Prize for Playwriting 2021 and Shortlisted for Bold Playwrights 2022.
